A comment on my previous post about the Natural History Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden, reminded me of a remark Humuhumu made about it.

She said it made her think of the natural history museum in Dublin, Ireland. She's not wrong: it is equally overcrowded with taxidermy, wood-and-glass cabinets, dated displays, and peculiar odours. However, it struck me that she's six years old and capable of making that comparison because she's been there (DW/LJ), and to natural history museums in other European cities.

I don't want to bang on to her about the privilege she enjoys too much, but dang, that's one fortunate child.

Do you like dizzyingly overcrowded, dimly lit displays of taxidermy? If you do, the Natural History Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden, is the place for you.

Once again at the Universaeum in Gothenburg, Sweden, only this time the ibis is on its own after having its little exchange of beak-hand taps with Keiki.

Aaaaaand since we're now at the final, I would like your predictions for this year's Bake Off winner. Not that I'm terribly invested given that ALL MY FAVOURITES ARE GONE and only boring people are left.

Keiki and the scarlet ibis
At long last, the project is complete! This was taken in August, when we visited the Universaeum, the natural history museum in Gothenburg, Sweden. The central part of the building is taken up with a rain forest exhibit that spans five floors and contains myriad wildlife, including the scarlet ibis. It was very gentle with Keiki and allowed him to stroke its bill.

This is my mother-out-law in the Varldskulturmuseet (World Culture Museum) in Gothenburg, Sweden. She's sitting in one of the areas of the floor that is entirely dedicated to exhibitions aimed at children. Keiki and Humuhumu loved the museum so much we went there twice. And it was free.

Even though Granny and Granddad are purchasing large quantities of sweets from the shop in Gothenburg this photo, Keiki is still looking longingly at all the ones that didn't end up in his bag.
