In “this game keeps introducing small but important changes that maintain my interest” news, Pokémon Go seems to have adopted an almost continuous rota of themed events, based on Pokémon types and lasting weeks at a time. It’s helping me to complete my medals, as shown above. The only remaining silvers I have are Steel and Dragon, and if I keep tracking down Arons, I should have Steel into gold by the end of the month. Alchemy!
Completing one’s Pokédex is, of course, a never-ending task. Being a solitary player, I was never going to be a fan of raiding, so I’m very happy that the Field Research provides a different mechanism for collecting legendaries. Thus, now I have Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno.

Flaming Moltres (this should be a cocktail)

Electric Zapdos

Icy Articuno
I’m on Step 6 out of 8 in the Special Research. The sticking point is the “Battle in 10 raids” task. I’ll get through it, but it’s going to take me a while. Not that I mind!
How are my fellow PokéGo players doing?

I've picked PokeGo up again after the announcement of Let's Go with Eevee, which I will absolutely want to play. The field research makes it way better for me as I'm terrible at raids and the small community here means I can't just go find twenty people* and take down a superboss.
*seriously who can do this

I will gladly send you a Tauros as soon as humanly possible, if it can be done to make friends when not in proximity.

Yes please, and I will send you a Mr Mime (although they are SCARY AF if you ask me) to help you complete your dex as well, if you need.

Great! I have two now, and I'll catch them as I find them. And thank you for the offer in return. Mr. Mime is terrifying, but ... dex completion!

The regular events are working well for me too. The current 3x stardust for water based Pokémon is particularly useful because I was late to the raiding part of the game and I'm still trying to power up my decent raiding Pokémon.
*I'm strictly a part-timer compared to most of the local raiders. One of them actually has the gold badge for legendary raids while I'm still plodding my way towards a silver.

The tasks are fun and I'm getting more into battling for gyms because of them. I've also taken more of an interest in powering up my Pokémon as well, and I'm surprised at how useful, for instance, Jumpluff turns out to be when you boost it!

I finally managed to evolve Politoad though which was lovely and I now have both final evolution of Oddish so that is cool. It is disheartening when you spin disks for 7 days and it isn't the add on you need that falls out the pokestop though >__<
I wish the pokewatches were accurate because I could SO get some Ks in at work lol I hate that it gets so inaccurate once the app goes dormant. I am getting more irritated by the day by those pokemon that appear for a split second and you need to be a ninja to get your finger on.

I hear you on the add-on disappointment, ha. The only times I've randomly received add-ons are when I'm on the bus going through a thicket of Pokéstops and I spin like thirty in quick succession. That's been useful.
I've been hunting a Shuckle that's near my work for a couple of weeks. I can see its shadow and have even seen it appear once and then disappear as I was frantically trying to tap it. Argh!

I spun every day for 7 days and today all I got was another metal coat which I already had. So my Slowpoke is STILL waiting on its kings rock. So is another pokemon I can't remember the name of right now. Grr. At least I finally got my Blastoise though.

And yes, the game has been super good about keeping me engaged lately - also good for my attempts at jogging, that's my favorite way to replenish my pokeballs. I can't really catch pokemon while running, but spinning pokestops works :D

The Research mechanic has been fantastic for collecting things that I didn't get in raids, and I hope it rotates through basically everything that's been in legendary raids so that I can catch everything eventually. (And thus can just focus on having fun at the raids themselves, when I can participate.)
I'm hoping for the ability to trade showing up eventually, because I'd love to have a proper and full Dex rather than having to figure out how to make a worldwide trip so I can collect the region-locked mons.

It seems like the plan is to rotate legendaries regularly for the Research tasks, so fingers crossed that trend continues.
I'm hopeful there might be another event where the region-locked ones switch around. I got Kangaskhan the first time but I missed getting Farfetch'd the last time that happened.

I also got a 15/14/15 Kyogre this week, which made me very happy because the best one I got last round was far worse, like 89%. Kyogre is one of the most useful legendaries for battling, so I'm glad to finally have a good one.
On the other hand, shinies elude me. I really wanted a shiny Ho-oh because I thought the golden bird was so pretty, but despite many attenpts, I just ended up a pokemon box full of regular rainbow birds. No luck with Kyogre either. I did get a shiny Aerodactyl, but I don't really care about Aerodactyl. When will I ever use it?
I'm am super stoked for Larvitar community day. I have a one 96% and two 98% Larvitars ready to evolve, so even if I catch nothing good, I will have three great Tyranitars with smack down.

Maybe Ho-oh will eventually turn up in the Field Research and you can get a shiny then? Did you get your Tyranitars with smack-down? I could only participate in Community Day for about 15 minutes at the start and finish - weekends are terrible for PokéGo because of all the running around for kids' activities. But I did manage to nab a few Larvitar while it was on. No shinies though, boo.
