Pokémon Go: Week 11

I have many things I want to write thoughtful posts about, but so very little energy left to construct them. Hence: Pokémon. Squee is welcome in the comments.

• On my way home from London, I found a Mr Mime lurking on a corner. I caught him. He was even worse than I’d imagined. I cannot decide which is more horrifying: Mr Mime or Grimer. Cannot...unsee...
  
• I caught a Magnemite! It’s not very powerful, but it is new to me. I’m very fond of it because it makes me think of my work.
  
• Not long after I caught the Magnemite, I encountered a CP1100+ Magneton in Hammersmith Tube station. I immediately threw a Raspberry and an Ultraball at it, but it poofed away after my first attempt (a Great Throw, even)! DISAPPOINT.
  
• The Magnemite unlocked a new medal: Depot Agent, for Steel-type Pokémon. It is now my Most Pathetic Medal. Yay!
  
• On the other end of the scale, I maxed out the Collector (2000+ Pokémon collected) and Backpacker (2000+ Pokéstops visited) medals.
  
• I’ve walked my Omanyte to evolvability. Now walking my Seel, because who wouldn’t want a Dewgong to call their own?

If you dislike Mr. Mime, you may not like Jynx either? I have always found Mr. Mime to be one of the more "WTF" Pokémon.

Bummer on the Magneton. In the original games both Magnemite and Magneton were tricky to catch.

Dewgong is so cute.

I don't mind Jynx. I find it hypnotic. But something about Mr Mime's stance and hand gestures is really creepy.

I saw a Dewgong in a gym and I immediately went WANT, YES, ONE OF THOSE PLS.

100% AGREE. I was excited at first when I caught it because it looks like an angry little bone-thief. But then I went into the Pokédex and read the description and went WHAT NO, WRONG, VERY VERY WRONG. >:(

I've seen Mr Mime a couple of times around these parts, but I've only caught the one. He's really not very much pretty is he! Wouldn't know about Grimer, I haven't found one of those yet. :) Don't much care for Pinsir myself. Bit scary and angry looking.

I've seen the shadow of Magnemite a few times, but haven't caught one yet. I have, however, finally got Pikachu. At LAST! And wouldn't you know it, we seem to have a nest of them in the university park across the road from work. Yessssss!

Pinsir isn't cute enough for a Pokémon. It's a bit too mad max.

Congratulations on the Pikachu! There's a nest at the bloke's university too. They must have studious tendencies.

I know, I don't much care for Machop and it's evolutions either, much for the same reason as not much liking Mr Mime or Jynx. They look too much like people. I have noticed that most pokemons seem to get less cute when evolved. Not sure if that's on purpose or not. Rattata for example is nice enough, but I wouldn't like to find Raticate anywhere near my house.

Magnemites are one of my favourites, although the Omanyte is still winning that competition. I'm going to have to do a lot of walking to evolve the one Omanyte that I caught though.

I loved the look of the Magneton too. Having seen one and had it slip through my grasp only increased its desirability.

Ooh! Congratulations on the Aerodactyl. I haven't got one (or a Lapras or a Porygon, sniff sniff).

The Aerodactyl was a particular joy since all of my 10k eggs seem to be either Electabuzz or mildly disappointing Evees these days. I'm quite fond of Electabuzzs but I've hatched a lot of them now.

How do you walk Pokemon to evolve them? I've seen a few people mention it, but I don't understand it.

Ah! You have to add it as your Buddy. Tap on your picture in the lower left. When the full screen image of yourself pops up, tap on the menu in the lower right corner. In between the "Journal" and "Customize" options, there should now be a "Buddy" option. Tap that, and you should be able to select a Pokémon to be your buddy.

As you walk, your Buddy earns candies. Different Pokémon earn candies at different distances. For instance, a Jigglypuff, Magikarp or Clefairy earns one candy for every 1 km you walk. A Koffing earns one candy every 3 km. An Omanyte earns one candy every 5 km. In this way, you can earn enough candies to evolve a Pokémon that you don't catch or hatch from eggs very often.
