I turned my back to pick up the clothes to put into Eldest’s jumper-and-leggings drawer, and was treated to this fantastic 21-second display of total disdain upon my return. Thank you for putting me in my place, cat.

I don't entirely understand how this year is passing so quickly, but it's time for the monthly 1SE video again already. We're on holiday now until 10th August.

Somehow I have failed to post since 10th June, despite having posts written after the last weekly roundup. Life has been a bit stressful lately for a number of reasons but it is getting a little better now. The summer holidays are less than a month away, for both the children and for us.

Wow, I forgot to post this for a long time. I blame the excessive work-related travel (the Canaries, India) followed by interviews, a two-day workshop, and marking.

As usual, the cats feature heavily. Not much travel in this one except at the very end. One big highlight for me is my masters students disassembling and re-assembling a sounding rocket experiment in the CubeSat facility.

I made my 1SE for February and then forgot to post it here, although I did circulate to friends and family. Includes my trip to the USA to see my parents and other relatives, a weekend in Wales and a couple of trips to London and Birmingham, as well the usual cats and children. Watching this, last month looks a lot calmer than it was to live through.

I made this and then forgot to post it. Features a lot of canal walks and cats.
It's taken me more than an hour to catch up with four days of entries from you all, across DW and LJ. I'm definitely not complaining. I love spending time here reading. It certainly feels more rewarding than, say, trawling through FB trying to find actual updates from friends in between relentless adverts and algorithm-generated memes.

I caved and got a subscription for 1SE so that I could make an HD version of the full year (just over 9 minutes). I notice that my compositions became smoother across the year as I learned to create content to suit the format, similar to the way I adjust my journaling style for blog posts. I can also see where some months are very well curated because I had the time to spend on adjusting the framing or re-order the videos and others are just "let's get this done and out the door".

And that's a wrap! A project I managed to keep up for 365 days? I'll take it. This month features a lot of cats, but also rare appearances by my face and my toes (not at the same time).

Reviewing my year on DW - and to a patchier extent, LJ, because I forget to cross-post manually - I see I managed regular posting for the first six months, semi-regular in the subsequent four months, and shockingly little in November and December. I expect this to be a recurring theme next year, but am resolved at least to start as I mean to continue, and resume regular posting in 2024.

I'm off to a NYE party as the designated driver, a role I find myself happy to fill with increasing frequency. I hope whatever you have planned allows you to welcome the new year in your preferred manner.

I'm coming up on my first full calendar year of 1SE. I'm pretty pleased that recording short videos has become a part of my daily routine - I rarely forget, and it is a nice record of moments I'd definitely forget to write down otherwise.
