I've never tried red wine vinegar on chips! I must perform this experiment.

Malt vinegar is not even food.

(Potatoes aren't really food for me, either. I will never really be British. :) )

I won't argue with you about malt vinegar. I will simply rejoice internally that there is more malt vinegar for me. ;)

Despite my fondness for potato-based foods, I will always, always love rice more than potatoes. Arare trumps any flavour of crisp for me.

The best thing is both ketchup and mayonnaise, but if there's only one it's ketchup. And you missed gravy off the list: the actual best thing is gravy and ketchup.

I don't like crisps much but I like some of the flavourings. I'm led to believe that it's socially unacceptable to lick off the flavours and put the crisps back in the packet.

Yes, me too. But I'm knackered after carrying the baby to/from U of B today in Birmingham so chips will have to wait until tomorrow. In the meantime, Viennese chocolate is providing a fair amount of comfort.

I think you might be able to find Walkers (which makes both of those flavours) crisps in the US, or at least at an online retailer in the US that would ship them to you. I'd offer to ship some from here but they'd probably be crisp dust by the time they got there and it'd probably be absurdly expensive.

Thanks! Yeah, shipping crisps is probably not worth it.

(On the other hand, I do sometimes participate in swaps with folks from all over the place, and "your best/strangest flavor of crisps" is something that can go on the swaps list really easily.)

Friends that had travelled to England converted me to mayonnaise. I'm not a huge fan of chips, and that saves it somewhat.

I quite like putting tartar sauce on my chips, but strangely have never been attracted to just plain mayonnaise, even though tartar sauce is basically mayo with little bits of chopped-up gherkin. Sometimes personal food preferences make no sense. :P

I would have said chips instead of fries, but it's been so long since I've had good ones that I've got used to ordering fries on the basis that they are more reliable.

I haven't eaten chips for a while, I must admit. I don't dine out very often any more and when I do I tend to go for something a bit fancier than stuff that comes with chips. That said, I do like the Med Kitchen's little crispy fries very much.
