[LiveJournal Achievement banner: 24 years of blogging]
A number of milestones have passed in recent weeks, including the above. With the exception of a few weeks here and there, I have been blogging continuously in the same journal for 24 years. Most of the rest of the world has moved on to various socials, none of which I have been able to find fulfilling. I deleted all the associated apps off my phone in January and I don't miss them. This community of stalwarts, on the other hand, I cherish, especially as we all navigate middle and old age together.
The other other important anniversaries:
- Five years of being an academic and three years since being promoted and taken off probation. I have one more rung up the ladder to climb.
- Thirteen years since moving into this house. This is the longest I've ever lived in one place. I was never going to do so unless I had kids. My childhood was so disrupted by repeated moves, I was determined for my children to have as much stability as possible.
- Twenty-one years since moving to the UK. I thought I was only going to be here for a year and a half, maybe two. Lol. I've now spent far more of my adult life in this country than the one I was born in.

Congrats on epic consistency!
And as someone who moved a ton as a kid, thank you.

Congratulations on all those achievements!
We also made an effort to stay in the one house for our kids childhoods, and mostly succeeded. Partner was from a small country town, so while I think they moved once or twice as a youngling, it didn't change their social setting. We nearly managed that for our kids, except that the tiny primary school that Eldest started in closed down so the government could sell the land off.

We did end up with three kids across four high schools over the time period, due to the way that selective programs work, but at least we didn't move house after Youngest was six months old.

I've really enjoyed moving my online social activity back towards DW and away from the apps. So nice not to feel like I'm constantly being bossed around by the algorithm.
I moved around a lot as a kid and don't recall being especially bothered by it -- though, in retrospect, it kind of stunted my social development, I had books and fandom to compensate for the lack of RL friends so didn't really notice at the time! But my partner had a similarly itinerant childhood and hated it, so I suspect we will end up making a similar decision to yours for our kids.

I think moving is good for developing resilience (argh) but when you're a kid and you have little to no agency in it, it can also make you guarded and fearful.
