February 14

How has getting older helped you deal with challenges in life?

I’ve become calmer. I get a lot less riled up by things that would have sent me into a rage spiral twenty years ago.

When I have a look around my home, it’s very obvious that I…

...need to hoover, again, even if I just did it twelve hours ago.

In other exciting news, someone has washed and brushed the Shaggy Pony, and its coat is once again white(ish)!

If you happen to have Tech Toy Budget just lying around, I highly recommend a robot vacuum. Excellent for that low-hanging cat hair and miscellaneous floor dirt. We run ours twice a day to keep up with the feline overladies.

We’ve been researching getting a robot vacuum! Any suggestions? Is Roomba still the leading brand? (I had one in the mid 00s, and my cat destroyed in inside of 3 months—like, literally attacked the sensor until it was dead—but we don’t currently have pets (tho’ a toddler which might be worse) and I imagine they’re much better now.)

We are happy with our Roomba. It's better than it used to be with long (human) hair, but on the first couple runs we needed to do some significant detangling. (I had one in 2008 or so.) We got one of the cheaper models, but it's still effective. It does get stuck and eat inappropriate things, but we try to keep shoelaces off the floor and have attached a radio frequency beeper tag so we can find it when it hides under the open dishwasher door and runs out of battery.

Naked without an RFID

Shocking to me that a family robot wouldn’t come with a “find me” tag installed.

Re: Naked without an RFID

It does have an integrated one, but sadly that depends on wifi, and once it runs out of battery sufficiently it disconnects.

I have submitted a suggestion for an independent low-power beeper.

Ah, hooray for the Shaggy Pony having a cleaner coat.
