Day 149/365: Shaggy Pony update

In important countryside news, the Shaggy Pony Foal continues to grow.


And make goofy faces.

I just spent almost two hours replying to all the comments I let pile up over the last few days, so that's all I have for today, folks.

It's the season of Fluffy Baby animals round here. This morning we saw nine - nine! - ducklings being chaperoned down the towpath by a pair of mallards.

Yes! Foal's legs are starting to look a bit more proportional to the rest of it, too.

As someone whose household includes a shaggy not-really-a-pony (a clydesdale cross) I adore your shaggy pony pics! This foal is adorable - all legs and nose and scruffy. :-)

Oh, clydesdales are lovely! I don't know if I'd recognise a cross. Are they just a bit smaller, or are they also less shaggy?

It depends a bit on the horse. Dubbin is 14.2 hands high, but his half-brother Rusty is a 17 hand or so giant; his mother (the Clydie parent) was around the same height that he is. Dubby's winter coat is a bit shaggy, while his summer coat is more smooth. But he definitely has the heavy Clydie head and mighty musculature, while his hindquarters show the thoroughbred half of his parentage. He also has a spectacularly thick and flowing mane and tail.

horses terrify me up close, but I am happy to respect and admire them from a distance. Thank you for sharing!

Horses always seem to be larger than I remember when I get close to them. Watching them from the window is where I'm most comfortable with them, tbh.
