On Community Day, when I was back in the UK I caught a shiny Mareep straightaway, and jumped for joy because I had just acquired enough Mareep candies to achieve the full evolution cycle. And now I have a beautiful shiny pink Ampharos in my backpack. Huzzah!
From a PokéGo perspective, it was fantastic being in central Vienna, where the Pokéstops are as dense as forest trees, during the Spring event. I managed to evolve a number of Hoenn region Pokémon, and I got a Moltres from doing Field Research. Hat-tip to the bloke for helping me with completing sequential curveball throw tasks. I’m very pleased there’s now a way to get Legendaries without having to battle in difficult raids, which would require interacting with other people. (That’s just not my favourite aspect of playing any game!)
That said, the reason I’m making this post is that when I got to London this morning, I found that

I hate being social and I hate raids. I basically sat on a street and let a big Rydon beat up my pokemon for five minutes to get my task done. I don't really understand how to win the battles never mind manage it enough to get a raid in the bag lol

Haha, my plan is to do the raid tasks in pretty much the same way. Unless I get a Magikarp or something, then I'll put the effort into tapping. :P

I caught Moltres on the bus home from the hospital today for doing tasks. Someone tried to phone me during it and I legit declined the call. I WAS BUSY. Doing IMPORTANT things. Like an ADULT.
My dog is not talking to me cause I forced him on an extra walk this afternoon to hatch a 10k egg too. It is all pokemon all the time here.

This seems to me to be an entirely reasonable prioritisation.

Even if not, congrats on popping it off.

I'm really enjoying the Field Research aspect of the game, partly for the chance to catch Legendaries that I missed and partly because it seems to have brought people back into the game for whom raiding is not ever going to be a thing. (I've got to admit that I find raiding difficult still although it's getting easier now that I'm starting to recognise people from my local group and they're starting to recognise me.)

The Field Research is such a nice addition to the game. I always liked the longer-term tasks (daily catch & daily Pokéstop) and I'm pleased at the development of further complexity in them.

The Kanto region event here helped a lot in terms of collecting candies for evolving some of the rarer mons. Still don't have a Hitmonlee, though. Maybe if they ever do a Fighting event?
It is nice to be able to catch legendary creatures without raid necessities. (There was a Latios raid at the Community Day, which basically shuttled people in and out quickly - I caught one!) I do wish that it would shift Pokémon for each breakthrough. Having more than one Moltres is not a complaint, but I would like the others, too.

A Fighting event would be great. I still don't have Hitmonchan and I saw its shadow several times during the event. Most frustrating.
Congratulations on Latias! I hadn't realised that the breakthrough doesn't shift Pokémon as I've only done it once. Shame.

The only shinies I've collected so far have been during the community events - I haven't even seen the other shinies once, while a friend of mine seems to be able to catch them on the regular.
I don't think it shifts right now, but I'm hoping that with time, it will, so that we can collect different legendaries, even if it is on a delayed schedule compared to the raids.

I saw an article that speculated the "reward" Pokémon were being selected by type, as most of them are fire-based right now. So we might see a shift to Electric and thus get Zapdos, for instance.
