Guess who’s still playing Pokémon Go. Yep. I was sucked in again by the Gen 3 updates, and as I got a fair amount of walking done during the holidays. Although it was mostly in rural Norfolk where there are Pokéstops about every 2-3 miles if you’re lucky. Thus, my egg hatch page currently looks like this:

It hasn’t been that empty since I first started playing the game in July 2016. I do like that the egg pages now let you know the date when you picked up each egg. This is helpful for someone like me, who prefers to walk an egg before it goes a bit stale.

One advantage of playing in rural Norfolk is that I popped my Snorlax in a gym and it is still there eight days later. I may get my first gold gym badge this way. Of course, it’ll be another six months before I can cash in on that again, but hey, gold gym badge!

Here are my two favourite recent Gen 3 acquisitions:

Wailmer. Takes 400 candies to evolve! Phwoar. It’s a good thing I live next to a body of water.

Luvdisc. I mean, awwww.

I’m still feeding my cats every day in Neko Atsume. A new cat was released in December, and I have already got its memento. I also redecorated with some of the new toys. It looks to me as if it’s also now possible to design a monochrome garden with the black/white/grey toys, which I’m going to try the next time I get a little break.

Here’s Sooty.

Sooty’s memento: Game pieces.

I have so many gold fish stockpiled I can afford to feed my cats with Deluxe Tuna all the time. And yet I am still not bored.

I think I missed the latest Neko Atsume update. I still check at least ones a day and keep the cats fed.

Apparently they have visited me 7 times.

I'm mostly engaged in trying to tell Willow apart from Lexy.

My wife and I still play PoGo -- a lot. (We're level 36.) My favorite thing about it is that the cooperative aspects of the game -- raiding, flipping gyms daily -- have allowed us to get to know the other people in our neighborhood who play. Now we're all in a group facebook chat together, and we meet up not only for raids, but also for group pokemon hunting trips. Because of PoGo, we've gotten to know a lot of people in our neighborhood we otherwise wouldn't have met.

I'm impressed by how much stardust you have. I am constantly powering up my mon and have never amassed so much at once.

The newest generation dropped not too soon before a trip, so I got a massive amount of new things in while I was waiting in an airport for travel. I've just now made it back to work yesterday, and during the day was able to fill my bag all the way back up to top condition and collect a few coins. The new gyms have made coin collection so much easier and are making it much better in general to get nice items without having to sink money into it.

Yes. And those boxes are less of an impossible dream and more of a "I need to plan my savings accordingly," which also makes things better.

Yay, Pokemon Go!

I got a Wailmer yesterday, too! I did not realize how many of those one needs to evolve it, though ... That's ... going to be tricky :O There is clearly a lot of water in Leiden but it seems not to be the right kind of water (I caught my only one so far in the middle of a small German city very close to the Alps).

My Gold badges are for the Gym close to home and the one at work (the one you may also have seen *cough*) - both mainly because it's easy to get my Pokemon in on the way to/from work. And the third one is for a random gym in the middle of nowhere in Slovenia; I put the pokemon in from the car and it stayed and stayed and stayed there for a total of 76 days. I don't think I'll ever have that many points in any other gym!

I tend only to remember to Neko Atsume while I'm travelling. So I fed my cats over the holidays.

I bought a new phone last year in hopes that I could finally play Pokémon Go. It had tons of memory and a fair amount of processing power, but I didn't realize it didn't have a gyroscope. Unfortunately, a gyro is needed for AR mode, which was one of the main motivators for me wanting to play (I have worked on a number of AR projects, both actual and conceptual, over the years). Sigh. It runs Pokémon Go, but I guess I was bummed out by the limitation and didn't manage to get hooked. My go-to phone poison game remains Terra Battle from Hironobu Sakaguchi's company Mistwalker.

Ah, Sooty! I haven't managed to catch Sooty on a visit yet. Perhaps I have been looking at the wrong white spotted cat...

The Wailmers are great. So big. So happy. So many candy needed to evolve. I've caught three so far and am planning some river walks on my lunch breaks to try and find more. Assuming I ever get another lunch break without rain again. January weather. *sigh*

Pokemon Go stopped working on my phone AGES ago for want of storage space (it got to the point where I think I would have had to delete all but one app to have it work) and I had to delete but I would still be playing otherwise, I love the walking-reward element to it! Wailmer is delightful - that smile!!!!

I'm enjoying Pokemon Go still - it acts as a good incentive to go outside every day, as there are a couple of gyms and pokestops within a short walk of home, and zillions of both near my workplace. I have to be really under the weather not to manage a stagger round to the nearest gym to home, and I can easily fill a half hour walk in my lunchtime.
