Keiki discovers stroopwafel

In this Adventure of Keiki & Mummy at Home, Keiki digs through Mummy's large bag of rapidly assembled duty free items and discovers stroopwafels. Stroopwafels, for those who haven't had the pleasure, are a luxury Dutch biscuit/cookie consisting of two very thin crispy waffles sandwiching a layer of sticky caramel. They are terribly, terribly morish.

I think he likes them.

They are sooo good. I always buy a box of six packages of them even though they weigh a ton. Two are for the bloke to take to work, one for home, one for the lab and the other two kept in reserve.

What a sweet photo. I love Stroopwaffel and I always come back with them when I go to Belgium. My #2 son has just come back from Brussels. I forgot to ask him to bring some back, silly me!

The savoury Dutch treat that I love are Bitterballen.

They're so nice, and delicious after dunking in a warm drink. Chocolate-coated versions are also available but not in the big boxes that I buy to bring home!

He is! He's pretty much well now, apart from a lingering cough. He was smiling and giggling a lot today, which has been lovely to watch after the weeks of misery.

Do you do the balancing them on top of your mug of tea or coffee? It makes them even better (though less toddler-friendly - not that the caramel gets hot enough to be any danger, but you do need to have a really hot drink handy.

Ooh! What a good idea, so the caramel syrup filling can melt a bit more! I've broken them into pieces and dunked them, but it never occurred to me to try steaming them. I shall do that. Thank you.

I was taught it by my Dutch GP, so I think it might be the One True Way.

You can get them in M&S and Sainsburys, you know (you may not be grateful for this knowledge. I have to ration myself very firmly because I love them too much).
