December Days in Photos: Day 9: Neko Atsume

Whilst I was in Tenerife, one of my colleagues introduced me to what she called "the crazy cat-lady game". (I have mentioned I work with the best people, haven't I? Yes, yes I do.)

I immediately downloaded and installed Neko Atsume.

I have not been this captivated by a game for a long time. It's so low-key in terms of interaction, and yet so rewarding. You put out food and toys, try to optimise the acquisition of gifts (silver and gold sardines) and tempt rare cats into your garden. Then you simply wait for the kitties to turn up. I have thus far managed to tempt all but two of the sixteen rare cats into my garden, and that's because I haven't put their favourite toys out yet. I'm now trying to save up enough fish to purchase the toys to execute various projects, such as the All-Ball garden, the All-Box garden and the All-Cushion garden. I could do the all-ball garden now, but I'm reluctant to take away the kotatsu (the heated table with the orange skirting in the photo). They all look so cosy on - or more frequently, under - it.

OMG, Samurai Kitty practising is adorable.

Yes, it's definitely one of my favourites. I also like the rotund kitty who periodically comes and cleans out the food bowl and then lounges next to it with crumbs on its belly.

I am ridiculously in love with that game too. It shouldn't be fun, but it really is.

It's very soothing to watch. Especially when you get a few of them together playing with the string-things, or a couple of balls, or the scratching posts.

And the children loved it so much on my phone while we were waiting to see the dentist that I have now installed it on their iPad so I can have my kitties back.

Eeeexcellent. I hope they're enjoying swapping around the decor. The burger cushion is especially good entertainment value.

Kinda wish I had the space for one, now. And the ability to fit under it...

I keep thinking that is a game I should try, and then I keep not doing it because I'm afraid my time will disappear into the void.

It doesn't require much attention - in fact, it rewards you for spending time away from it. If you poke it continually, nothing happens.

However, you may find yourself tapping your foot impatiently waiting for half an hour to pass so that there will definitely be new cats in your garden...

Several pople have recced this game. I now have time and energy and motivation simultaneously, and have downloaded it. And as a bonus, the same search screen got me 'Classic Minesweeper', so I might just skip esponsible adult for the next two hours (fortunately, my kids are currently squabbling about what to watch, so I probably have that much irresponsible time available)

I poked at it, did the tutorial, and then went and played Minesweeper. I think I'll have to give it a little time to get my head wrapped around.

Oh Neko Atsume; such a lovely little game. I kind of want to do a food themed garden with the cafe and the Sakuramochi cushion and the Tiramisu cube when I've saved up enough gold sardines for all of that :)

AHHH such a good idea. I've spent far too much time thinking this over. My food themed garden would be: the cafe and the doughnut (or fish stick) tunnel as the two "large" items, along with the six small items: the sakuramochi, chestnut and burger cushions, the cat pancake, the tiramisu cube, the watermelon ball. :D

It's so soothing. I'm particularly amused by seeing the little cat-butts sticking out from under the kotatsu.
