The bloke brought home an infrared camera from the forest he's doing experiments in at the moment. Naturally we set it up in the back garden overnight.

And we learnt we have hedgehogs!

This evening he said he had to nip to Homebase to get some supplies for tomorrow's forest experiment. This is what he came home with.

Currently trying to decide whether or not I should be worried.

There were rumors in my parents' neighborhood (right up against a National Forest in Colorado) of bears and an occasional mountain lion on the prowl. New folks moved in and didn't believe it, but since they found one for sale, they bought a motion-activated IR camera and set it up in their back yard.

First night produced a wonderfully-centered portrait of a mountain lion right in their yard!

That's fantastic! The biggest (non-agricultural) mammalian entity likely to appear in our garden is...a badger.

It would be cool to see a badger, though!

Well, he definitely took all the stuff away with him yesterday and didn't come back with it, so the hedgehogs can breathe a sigh of relief.

HEDGEPIIIIIG! We love hedgehogs in this house. Even joined the Hedgehog Friends society. Husband has signed up to be a volunteer hedgehog driver, if somebody has an injured hedgehog and can't take it to a hedgehog nurse on their own. Hasn't had any calls yet, though. :)

Aw, that's very generous of you both. I'm kind of glad about the lack of calls so far, though - hopefully that means there aren't too many hedgehogs being injured.

Sometimes it comes just after sunset. So in theory if we sat out really quietly we might be able to see it with our eyes!
