Not one of my British friends and colleagues has complained about the weather for the last week.

Now, I'm the first one to admit that it is absolutely glorious out, but I'm half American so I'm allowed unqualified enthusiasm for nice things. Surely there is something amiss when no one is grumbling about the weather. Isn't the sunshine the wrong colour? Isn't it bad for the plants in the garden? Won't there be an hosepipe ban? Doesn't this mean we'll have six solid months of rain come the autumn?

Isn't just a little too hot?

Come on, guys. You're letting the side down here.

Clearly you're hanging out with the wrong people! I reckon at least 50% of the people I've heard from hate the weather. (But then, these are types who call the sun "the evil daystar" or ask "who turned on the lights in the Big Blue Room?")

Andrew makes me laugh: he usually answers the phone when my mom calls and she always asks him what the weather's been like. "Oh it's boiling," he says. It's so awful. No one can live like this. Then he hands the phone to me and Mom says "wow, I guess it's been really hot there then?" and I have just been checking for the exact temperature so I can say "it's 68 degrees. We had a high of 73 today!" This is perfect, slightly mild, summer weather if you ask my parents and me. People here are talking about this like my family would talk about it being in the 90s.

So yeah, if you're feeling unsettled by the lack of complaints, come to Manchester! They expect a totally different quality of weather here.

I am suffering. It is too hot for me, and I am staying in where it's a little cooler and looking forward (sorry) to the weather breaking.

But I am allowed to complain about the heat because I don't moan about the rain or grey clouds or lack of sunshine (and seriously, I love our climate).

When I am Supreme Overload (any day now) British people will be allowed to complain about the sun and the excessive heat, OR the cold and the rain and the dampness but NOT BOTH. It will be one or the other folks; you will have to make your choice. (I'm not sure what will happen to people who do complain about the weather year 'round, but I'm thinking public mockery and much sarcasm.)

Voting! Pah! I will seize power when the time is right. My hour will come

I have a house with ridiculously thick granite walls and it stays cool indoors, so other than occasionally wandering outside to sit in the sun and drink a cup of coffee while watching the crows have teenage squabbles in a nearby tree, I barely notice the heat at all. I can kind of see why people like hot weather now!

Also I just found my prescription sunglasses, which have been in a box for six months. This makes summer much easier to deal with.

You should visit Cornwall and bring your cute daughter. We have lanai equivalents!

I complained yesterday that it was too cloudy! Also that my feet were cold, but that was more a complaint about the air conditioning in the office than the weather.

I complain about it raining all the time and about it being hot if I have to sit out in it. I am quite happy to sit in my cool house and look at sunshine though.

But it won't last...

My only complaint about this weather is that I'd like it to be hotter! But, really, it's excellent and I endorse our week of summer.

I don't really belong in this country. I'm not sure where my genes got lost from, but it's definitely further south.

GOOD LUCK

I would like some summer in late July, early August, when I'm housesitting for my parents (who have a gorgeous garden and a swimming pool).

I wouldn't want it any hotter, but just like this is fine for me, especially as my new office has ceiling fans and there's an unheated, open-air swimming pool on my way home.

It's a definite advantage of living and working in London!

Heh, I have been doing alllllll the complaining about the weather. I am far too hot, and I am particularly not enjoying the muggy weather that yesterday brought. I can just about cope with heat (although I do whinge like a five year old) but the sticky heaviness just does me in completely. I'm a little more relaxed today because a) I am not spending lots of it on trains or wearing smart clothes and b) it's a bit thundery and there's a breeze and we've had some rain.

I figure that I am allowed to whinge my way through summer because I don't complain about it being cold or grey or rainy in autumn and winter - because I love it.

I am much happier today. It's chilly! I've got socks and a cardigan on!

Here is my rant then. I live in Scotland and people are watering their grass. It poured for a week straight before the sun. It is due to rain for a week straight after the sun. The fuck are they doing ¬_¬ But yay no hosepipe bans for us~ Cause our water is paid in our council tax or whatever

I still miss the weather I briefly experienced when I was 18, and went to South Africa in Jan/Feb. Left the UK (6 degrees C), landed in Durban (35 degrees C). Mostly dry heat, endless sun... I recently rediscovered my two "You just learned to dive!" photo ID cards, the first clearly showing a young man with England-white skin, the second (a few weeks later) showing the same young man with some kind of Photoshop filter, I presume ;)

...uhm, I mean, Goodness, this weather is a bit on the hot side, isn't it? Of course, it'll all come to an end soon, always does, bloody English weather... :P

As others have said, you're talking to the wrong people. My twitter timeline has been a unending moan about excess temperatures, high pollen counts, the lack of promised/forecast rain, and moans about said rain when it does happen.

I personally find unending warm weather quite boring and exhausting and I would much prefer it to be broken up with some storms and rain. AND I was just yesterday lamenting the loss of the screening of matches they would show when Wimbledon was rained off, which obviously doesn't happen now they have the centre court roof *grumble*

Isn't just a little too hot?

No. It's too hot. No qualifiers necessary.
