Wow, I find those results FASCINATING. Can't wait to see them with more people answering.

The only time I hear people referring to the southern hemisphere apolitically is with reference to the seasons. The rest of the time it's people from the Northern hemisphere wittering on about "the global south", most of which is north of the equator, and almost all is north of me.

I think I'm used to people saying the Global North/South when they mean the political divide and the Northern/Southern hemisphere when they're talking about the geographical divide. I'm not quite sure why.

It looks like N/S is skewing very strongly geographical and E/W is skewing less strongly political - results are similar on LJ (here).

I don't *think* I have a lot of southern hemispherical people in my Circle, so this probably affects the results.

I think this distinction is entering common use now (at least more common than I can remember a decade ago), whereas E/W is more muddled?
