Growing yellow oyster mushrooms from a kit

The box had to sit in the dark for three months for the mycelium to form inside the black plastic, but once released, the mushrooms grew to edible size in just over a week!

Here's what they looked like just before harvest:

Yes! I'm not much of a mushroom fan normally, but these were good.

Yes! Currently waiting for it to go again. It's supposed to produce multiple rounds of fruiting bodies. We'll see!

It looks like the growing went well, and the mushrooms appear to look like they should be eaten. Were they any good, and what were they put in to make them so?

They were good! Fried them up with a bit of garlic, chopped onion and butter. Sadly they lost their beautiful yellow colour in the cooking process, but they tasted nice.

Good taste is important, although it would have been nice for them to look good as well.

Hopefully the next set is just as delicious.

Interesting! Did you buy the kit online?

Yes! It wasn't cheap - this isn't a cost-effective method of mushroom growing - but it has been interesting and educational.

That’s what I figured - that those kits aren’t really cost effective. But at least interesting

It was so cool seeing them grow. Not a very efficient way to obtain a meal, but worth the wait!
