Today Humuhumu went back to school, but Keiki was at home because it was a teacher training day at his school. You'd think that they'd be thrilled when this happens - no competition for internet-enabled devices, or access to parents. The reality, however, is that they spend most of the time asking when the other one is finally going to get home.

Rather than mope wistfully around the house for the whole day, Keiki and I decided to tackle a milestone he's been wanting to accomplish: Walking all the way to Tardebigge Tunnel and back. This is no mean feat. It's over 4 km uphill to get there. It took us two hours and ten minutes round trip with only a few brief stops for a drink of water or to unwrap a sweet. Above, he stands proudly at the entrance to the 530 metre tunnel, which can only be accessed by the water.

Inset days

Hah, we had the opposite, kind of. Younger should have restarted today, while Elder has not one but two Inset days and doesn't restart until Thursday. But Younger managed to skive off day1 with a bit of a tummy ache, leaving her brother grumpy and angry all day as he'd been looking forward to having the house to himself. Sigh. At least he came for, and enjoyed, a damp walk to the park with me and the dog.

I hope she is not planning to take the day off tomorrow as well, because it is Not Happening.😠

Re: Inset days

Exactly as predicted, there was another attempt to skive off this morning, accompanied by a lot of wailing and shouting of "It's not fair!" - never mind that she has a day off next Monday when her bro will have to go in.

But as usual, once we got the bikes out and set off, all was OK. In some ways, that's a relief but in others it's frustrating. So much fighting for zero gain.

[LOVES THIS]

" It's over 4 km uphill to get there. "

4km? That's longer than I have to walk to work!!! =8oO

(OK, granted, you/he probably weren't worried about getting there by a specific deadline, upon pain of "having to talk to the Big Boss(TM) and Explain yourself(TM)")

Well done, Keiki! You have now resounding passed "adult manipulation" 101! =;o}

Good stuff, long walks are fun and he's not old enough to pout and complain if not wanting to go ;)

Not a walkable tunnel which suggests they took the horses up and over.
