Nibbles is the sleepy-looking one with the reddish eyes. We are assured that they are both boys. We shall see.

Major gerbil achievement tonight: They worked out how to climb the orange tube to get to Level 2 of their house, which has their food and water bowls, and their wheel.

Depending on how old they are (7 weeks or more, says https://www.merckvetmanual.com/all-other-pets/gerbils/breeding-and-reproduction-of-gerbils ) you will definitely be able to perceive their balls.

Um, I'm really sorry but could you possibly put rodents-with-tails pictures under a cut? I'm sure they are lovely and I hope the children love them lots :-)

Hello small rodents. Good names for them, and they seem intelligent, with how they have been able to explore and find the useful places.
