Keiki's first day at school (Day 7 of 30)

Today was Keiki's first day at school, in Reception (Kindergarten for USians). He was very proud and pleased to walk in those doors with his sister.

He also proudly told us at the end of the day, "I went to the head teacher's office! I saw the rainbow award board with all the really good school work."

With more than a slight amount of trepidation, I asked carefully, "And were you by yourself, or with other children?"

"With other children," he replied.

"And did the whole class go?"

"Yes," he said, "but we couldn't go all at once so we had to go in small groups."

Much relieved, we showered him with praise.

He electrified us with that information, especially as he is going through a particularly naughty phase at home at the moment!

Yes, it was a bit of a shock seeing him in the full outfit, as he'd only tried on elements of it previously.

Thank you! He's loving school so much. Half-days this week, then full time from next week, so we'll see how he does with that transition as well...

Humuhumu's dress is too big and Keiki's shorts are wonky. This somehow does not detract at all from the cuteness.

Yes and yes, I'm fine with this - it's the least upsetting thing by far that's happened in the past two weeks.

He loves school so much. It's wonderful to watch.

Well done Keiki! (And that's a hilarious anecdote, though I dread to think what one would have to do to get sent to the head's office in the bad sense on the first day of reception!)

\o/ He got through his whole first week! He's very happy. Today he found a bush cricket on the playground and told the teacher, "It has an ovipositor, so it's female." Apparently she was gobsmacked.

SO excited. He was frustrated that he hadn't started last week - they do a staggered start with the Reception children and he's one of the older ones, so started later. He kept trying to run in after Humuhumu on those days.

I guess for the moment it's a positive thing that he doesn't know that under normal circumstances, being sent to the head's office isn't a good thing!
