Foal, grazing in the field early this morning.
It's been weeks since I posted a Shaggy Pony update. We returned from our August holidays to find that foal had shot up and is looking so much like her mother, Cousin It. I had thought she would end up having a dark "mask" on her face (see this entry on Day 184: DW/LJ) but the tone of her coat has completely evened out, apart from her clearly delineated white ankle boots.

Very smart ankle boots.

Foals' coats often look rather different to the adult coat: much shaggier and often a different colour or get sun-bleached. It's not unusual for them to have a dark mask or to get dark rings around their eyes when they're shedding. What you're seeing is the first bits of their adult coat, and once all their foal coat sheds out they're a uniform colour.
