Day 166/365: The Good Place

Y'all, my intentions were good. We were going to watch one episode of The Good Place and have a glass of wine and then I was going to think up an unscientific poll.

But now the bottle of prosecco is mostly empty and we're two eps away from the end of Series One and I'm sorry but we need to finish the wine because bubbles are no good on Day Two and this series is the funniest most compelling damn thing I've watched in ages and I totally ship Elinor/Tahani and whoa this sentence is loooong.

Oh it was so perfect! And now I'm enjoying everyone slowly losing it in S2.

So a few weeks ago I was like, "I should try to watch some of the Hugo-nominated short form things, and The Good Place is on Netflix, so let's give it a shot." Next thing I know, it's like 8 hours later and I'm done with season 1 and buying season 2 on Amazon. (And I'm so not a person who binge-watches TV shows, or watches much TV in general.)

Which is to say, I feel you!

And also, yes on Eleanor/Tahani. (Though Chidi is actually my favorite as a character.)

My girlfriend made me watch a couple of episodes with her because she thought I'd like it, then she went back home and in the following 24 hours I, too, mainlined the entirety of S1. It's a very addictive show!

This show is soooo good and compelling! I definitely ship Eleanor/Tahani - I wish the characters of colour had more of a presence in S2 especially, but overall I really like this show.

I agree - the focus has shifted off the relationship between the four main characters, which makes it slightly less emotionally engaging to me.

Maaaan this show looks so good but I'm not sure I can get over my dislike of Kirsten Bell (not her as a person obvs just I don't enjoy her on my screen).

Yeah, she is rather central to the thing and she plays a character who's only moderately sympathetic at best. OTOH the other characters get a lot of screen time without her around so you may be able to grit your teeth and bear it? Unfortunately the first few eps are not a good litmus test as they very much revolve around her...
