Day 15/365: New Hair Day

New Hair Day selfie. My hair has been dyed, straightened and I'm wearing a crushed red velvet dress.

I can now safely claim to have established a routine for seeing a hairdresser regularly. It's something I've been wanting to do because being a parent to small children often makes me feel too tired to look after myself properly, and having well-groomed hair helps to combat that. So. Nice hair achieved. Just have to work on having a body I like again too. Progress is being made in that direction as well.

I was going to write a grumpy post, but the bloke came home today with a copy of "The Best of the Pogues arranged for piano", so rather than chew over the circumstances under which I became grumpy, I'm going to go make a very slow hash of Dirty Old Town or something.

Lovely! As ever. Woman, I saw some pics you posted recently-- that cool space-y dress, for instance. You look fantastic. I *do* understand your meaning, and I struggle with that a bit. Heck, since cancer I don't even look like myself to me. And that's a hard thing, to not know how to present oneself any more. I imagine you're experiencing some of that. I wish you balance and luck and the feel-goods in your skin and hair! *mwa*

Aw, thank you. Yes, my face and body have changed so much (to me at least) over the last five years. It's strange to come to terms with. It was especially hard when the children were really small. One thing I wish I'd known beforehand is that it can take a looooong time to recover from childbirth fully. Even after I'd healed and lost most of the baby weight, things were...off. I didn't really *trust* my body to do what I wanted it to until very recently.

Ugh, such good hair. That's a really great colour. (My hair resists colour so I'm salt and pepper now, but I have such colour envy for people who can do it.)

Thank you! I was dubious at first. When someone says "blonde highlights", I go, "lovely on other people, probably not for me", but my hairdresser promised it would not be jarring and I would like it. She was right!

Ha! I got a decent tan in September in LA but it has almost completely gone.

Hair is pretty and you is pretty and that dress is pretty! EVERYTHING IN PHOTO IS PRETTY.

There is something to be said for having your hair looked after by a professional. I mean, I know it's something most can do themselves, but there's also an added element of pampering. It's so nice having someone else shampoo your scalp--it never feels as nice when I do it myself.

I hope playing the piano helped you feel less grumpy.

Yes, I do love having my hair washed by someone else. A couple of visits ago, one of the beauticians was clearly bored and came to help out the stylists, and I got a head massage as well. It was bliss.
