I bet he would, as well, if he were much bigger. He's a pretty formidable hunter as it is. Last week he brought us a full-grown moorhen (alive and unharmed) and stuck it in the bathroom for us to find in the morning. He also brought in a baby bunny (again, unharmed).
I think I've figured out why he's suddenly doing this again. He's given up on the larger humans, but he figures the children might be taught to hunt properly now!
It's hard to resist picking him up and giving him a good fuzzing when he's all sun-baked and floppy like this. But the tongue told me he wasn't in the mood!
