Picspam! Me. Children. Ice cream. Good.

I got a new shirt: “I care about this Alot”. Hyperbole & a Half fandom.

I painted Humuhumu’s toenails, alternating red and silver.

Keiki ate a tiny foraged apple.

Humuhumu ate foraged blackberries and apples.

Everyone communed with chickens. (Keiki fed them a couple of Quavers.)

Humuhumu picked wildflowers…

...and posed in front of a windmill with her bouquet.

Humuhumu went to the beach.

Keiki had a long conversation with a black duck.

Keiki ate ice cream.

And finally, Humuhumu gave herself a perfect chocolate ice cream mustache and beard.

When we were walking back to our picnic bench with our ice creams, a woman actually squeaked when she saw Humuhumu's facial adornment. :D

The bloke was telling me I can't paint her fingernails once she starts school, which is unfortunate now that I've got the painting integrated into the nail-cutting ritual. I guess I can put on clear polish? And no one will see her toenails so surely it's fine to continue painting those.

If other kids misbehave in response to one kid's outfit, nails, hair, etc, it's their misbehavior that needs fixing, not the way the kid is dressed/styled. I wouldn't wear nail polish as a kid, but I would support any child (of any sex/gender) who felt strongly that it was important to them to wear it.

However, school uniforms are much more common in the UK than the US. Humuhumu will definitely attend a primary school with a required uniform next year, and - although I hadn't thought about this before - make-up and nail polish are also likely to be forbidden. :/

I'm with your friend above that kids should be able to express themselves in all manner of ways, of course they should (I've always been very supportive of my gay son). My opinion that there's a line to be drawn and that that young children should be allowed to be children and not dressed like a mini adult fashion icon still stands. Sometimes kids just have to accept that they can't have everything they want and parents make decisions in what they think are the best interests of the child. You seem to dress her beautifully, just like a little girl should be, in my probably old fashioned opinion ;)

Pointy goatee of chocolate ice cream. Best. I was reluctant to wipe it off.
