Picspam! Me. Children. Ice cream. Good.

I got a new shirt: “I care about this Alot”. Hyperbole & a Half fandom.

I painted Humuhumu’s toenails, alternating red and silver.

Keiki ate a tiny foraged apple.

Humuhumu ate foraged blackberries and apples.

Everyone communed with chickens. (Keiki fed them a couple of Quavers.)

Humuhumu picked wildflowers…

...and posed in front of a windmill with her bouquet.

Humuhumu went to the beach.

Keiki had a long conversation with a black duck.

Keiki ate ice cream.

And finally, Humuhumu gave herself a perfect chocolate ice cream mustache and beard.

I had sons so I'm not quite sure what is acceptable for little girls these days :) I'm all for not having them grow up too quickly (piercings and dressing them like mini adults) but maybe paint her nails in the school holidays would be a good compromise? :)

What does the kid want? Some kids may feel strongly about expressing themselves, even if they need help to do it. Some kids may not care what they wear, as long as their parents are okay with it, and in that case a compromise between parents' preferences seems like a good idea. Some kids may want to look like, or dress for, their classmates or role models.

If other kids misbehave in response to one kid's outfit, nails, hair, etc, it's their misbehavior that needs fixing, not the way the kid is dressed/styled. I wouldn't wear nail polish as a kid, but I would support any child (of any sex/gender) who felt strongly that it was important to them to wear it.

Thanks for explaining to me so kindly. I think I was over a line giving my opinion uninvited; I apologize. I hope you and all your family continue to have happy times.

Probably my badly constructed paragraph but I meant acceptable at school. In my day dress hems had to be on the knee, no jewellery and definitely no nail varnish. I'd have been considered on the way to becoming a floozy ;)

I'm with your friend above that kids should be able to express themselves in all manner of ways, of course they should (I've always been very supportive of my gay son). My opinion that there's a line to be drawn and that that young children should be allowed to be children and not dressed like a mini adult fashion icon still stands. Sometimes kids just have to accept that they can't have everything they want and parents make decisions in what they think are the best interests of the child. You seem to dress her beautifully, just like a little girl should be, in my probably old fashioned opinion ;)

They will see her toenails when she changes for PE (frequently barefoot when it is inside - which it will be from at least the October half term if not before. Both L's schools had indoors PE only for Reception children until the summer term). Clear with glitter might be a compromise, very discreet but enough sparkle to make her smile. You're right about nail varnish and make-up being banned in primary school, I would expect that to apply even in the very few without a uniform.
