Norfolk Easter Part 2

"Why, these eggs? They're for you, of course. No, I haven't been eating them. The chocolate all over my mush is purest coincidence, I assure you, madame."

Bloke with Keiki wearing Easter bunny ears and looking very worried about it.

Cousins with chocolatey tongues join bloke and Keiki.

Simnel cake, a triumph by yours truly with the invaluable help of Humuhumu in making the marzipan ball disciples. (Humuhumu also instrumental in the disposal of the marzipan ball disciples, managing to charm Granddad, Mummy and Daddy out of theirs.)

Nephew and Humuhumu decide to follow the female duck currently living in Grandparents' garden.

Female duck, deciding the small child threat was sufficiently minor, led them back to the pond, where male duck awaited.

No matter how foul or frigid the weather, we never can seem to resist taking a trip to the seaside when we visit Norfolk. Our original intention was to travel to Horsey beach to see the seals, but Humuhumu became restless during the car journey so we ended up stopping in Hemsby on our way up the coast.

When we arrived, the wind and the grim, determined expressions of the gulls reminded us that there is very little between the Norfolk coast and the Arctic. We briefly stood on the sand and stared at the grey, choppy water whilst our ears and fingers rapidly froze. We decided to beat a hasty retreat for cups of tea in a cafe. From the cafe, we spotted...the GIANT SLIDE.

For the first couple of goes on the GIANT SLIDE, Humuhumu sat on Daddy's lap.

Humuhumu then declared that she would like to go all on her own.

WHEEEEEE--

--EEEEEEE--

--EEEEEEE AGAIN x 8. She would have gone more times but we had to return to the car so I could feed Keiki, whose howling had crescendoed to a level loud enough to be heard above the wind.

While we sat in the car, the clouds abruptly decided to depart and the sun burst through. The temperature shot up and we decided to stay a little longer to have that walk on the beach after all.

Humuhumu enjoyed picking up stones and throwing them in the water.

The size of her stones gradually increased until she could hardly lift them.

Riding on Daddy's shoulders after delegating him to throw stones into the sea.

The icing on the cake was discovering a rough-hewn rock wall to walk on when departing the beach.

Before dusk descended, we lit the enormous bonfire prepared by Granddad. (Pictured: Granddad smiling at Humuhumu sitting on Daddy's shoulders.)

We waved sparklers at it. (Pictured: Granny and Nephew with sparklers.)

FAMILY MAKE FIRE. FAMILY STARE AT FIRE. FIRE GOOOOOD (Pictured, L to R: Brother-out-law [just seen], Granddad, Humuhumu + Daddy, Granny, Sister-out-law, Nephew.)

Keiki thought the fire fascinating, but also VERY FREAKING HOT. (Pictured: Keiki + Mummy, Granny, Sister-out-law.)

The fire was actually so hot we had to scrape some of the smouldering embers out to roast our marshmallows. (Pictured: Sister-out-law, Granny, Bloke, Humuhumu, Nephew, Granddad.)

And then we all tried not to fall asleep into our suppers.

It doesn't top it but the salad bowl would go Fargo explain the look of trepidation. "First a bowl. Now bunny ears. Some people eat bunnies. What are they trying to tell me? If they try to bread and fry me, I'm rolling my delectable self self right outta here."

Sounds wonderful! And Humuhumu looks so grown up in that first picture! Also, her expression on the giant slide is completely wonderful. Lovely pictures, as always
