The view from Humuhumu's room is quite simply spectacular. It's west-facing and it overlooks the lock and canal towpath. During the day, especially when it's nice outside, the lock is in almost constant use. Barges go up, barges go down. Small children demand to be allowed to open the lock gates. Dogs sniff around dangerously close to the canal edges. Cyclists and runners whiz past in luminescent lycra.

In the evenings, even when the weather's been terrible all day, it always seems to clear up about half an hour before sunset. I've watched and/or photographed nearly every one since we moved here a month ago. (It's been a month already. How did that happen.) Yesterday's sky was particularly stunning about ten minutes after the sun dipped below the treeline. The colours in these photos have not been manipulated.

Ten minutes earlier.

It's been beautiful today, so I anticipate a fine display this evening, but I'm going to have to take my camera with me to London or it might stage a rebellion from a lack of urban grit.
