I think it was partly the exchange of mixtapes between me and three or four of my friends during my high school years, and partly all the clubbing I did through university and grad school, that cemented my association of music and event-memory.
I'm always surprised to recall how abandoned we could be, especially since most teenage behaviour is supposedly dictated by self-consciousness.
