The Friday Five from two weeks ago on a Tuesday
(not a snappy title)
1. Do you cook regularly or does someone else cook for you?
I cook regularly because I have to - if I didn't, the family wouldn't eat sometimes. I have never really enjoyed it though, and I have a limited repertoire of dishes. If I were on my own I'd probably live on ramen, grilled cheese sandwiches, and fruit. The bloke is a much better cook than me, but he can't do it all the time.
2. Which are you better at making: sweet or savory foods?
Er, see above. I like baking more than cooking. I probably make sweet things a bit better.
3. If you had to work as a chef in a restaurant of your choice, which restaurant would best complement your current culinary skills?
The grilled cheese sandwich restaurant.
4. What is a cooking tip that you know, but other people generally aren’t aware of?
Get rich, hire a personal chef. Honestly, I have no idea, I don't talk to other people about cooking.
5. Do you have a recipe you would like to share?
I think my slow cooker chilli from this post is pretty good.

Also a local cafe used to (I wish they had never stopped) make this amazing grilled cheese sandwich - cheese with pesto, fresh basil leaves, and tomato. It was so good.

I've been in New York only twice and I cannot remember anything I had there either time except for fresh orange juice from a pushcart on the street. I came from a pretty small town in Ohio that had nothing like this, so I was intrigued when I saw all these OJ vendors and begged my parents to get me some juice. They were generally not indulgent parents but I was very persistent. It was so good, so cold. I continued begging for more juice at frequent intervals...I'm sure I had juice at least once more during that visit. Literally do not remember anything else I ate for that entire week, though I know we had lunch at the Carnegie Deli and we had dinner somewhere sort of fancy (for us, not by NYC standards).

When we first got together the Mr was a better cook than I was, but over the last 10 years I've outpaced him (because I do most of the cooking :P).
