Sauntering Vaguely Downward

The best grilled cheese sandwich I ever ate was in New York at a dingy diner that I stopped at because it was feckin freezing and I had walked about 20 miles that day. It was plain cheddar on white bread with butter, it cost me 3 dollars and it's the only food I can actually remember eating in New York. And I ate in a couple of posh restaurants. Can I remember what I had there? No. Just that sandwich. And the two old guys at the next table drinking their 47th cup of coffee of the day who told me I looked like I needed the food.
