I don't know anything about cross-stitch, but back-stitching certainly does make a difference!

It is a glorious field, without fvcks to be seen in any direction.

Yes, for some reason it's a thing a lot of cross-stitchers (including me) dread, even though it generally goes more quickly than the usual stitching. Once you've started, though, you can quickly see the difference it makes to the clarity of the design.
