Day 84/183: Friday’s Unscientific Poll: The Great British Sewing Bee 2020, Semi-final

Now we’re down to the last four contestants, it’s time to re-run the Great British Sewing Bee poll! I’m also attempting to get over the fact that we’ve dedicated two evenings in a row to staring at light fightings trying to work out the best arrangement for the kitchen and outdoors, and I’ve just dropped over £200 on the ones we selected. I may need a glass of wine or three to be able to cope with the idea that I’m now apparently a person who cares about light fittings.

Anyway.

Poll #24195 Great British Sewing Bee 2020, the semi-final

I was terrified that Nicole would go this week. I’m so glad she didn’t, but she needs to have fewer wobbles next week or she won’t be in the final and I will weep. Also, I’m so thrilled Liz is still in it! I was not expecting her to last this long.

I hate Clare and I don't know why. I think she's too much of a teacher's pet.

I think it's going to be an all woman final. I think it should be

I would be happy to see Clare in the final because she is competent at sewing. But Sewing Bee is about the technically proficient pattern-following attention to detail people low on seat-of-their-pants on-the-spot risk-taking design imagination having to develop the latter to win (and vice versa) and she hasn't done that. Her flamenco dress was terrible.

But I think it's easier for the imaginative people to gain technical skills than the other way round. I can't remember how this panned out in previous years or if this is in fact a correct theory!

I like Clare but if this was RPF I'd want her to fall in love with Nicole, who takes her on a round the world fabric-buying trip to take her out of her comfort zone while safely holding her hand, in which Clare says a lot of "Nicole, I know it's all shiny with sequins on but it's honestly not going to work for a raincoat and how would you put the zip in?".

I'd be happy to see any of them win, but I'd prefer it to be either Liz or Clare.

This is always the awful part. I like all of them! Can't they all win?!

Clare has the technical skills, precision, and attention to detail, but she’s been coming across as not particularly able to be flamboyant / risky / creative.

My fave is Liz and I am so happy she’s still in contention!

Yes - I love her design choices in general, even though she sometimes runs out of time (or trimmings!) in the execution.

My favourite is Nicole, closely followed by Liz. I don't mind Matt or Claire but I don't have the same heart-in-mouth feeling for them every time it's announced who's going home.
