Day 12/183: Weekly Goal Check-in (4/52)

You know that feeling when you go to book a hotel for a short stay in Reykjavik, and you want to one that is downtown and gives you breakfast in the morning, so you book whatever deal Expedia gives you, and then you discover it is round the corner from a museum, which pleases you, and you look closely at the museum on Google maps, and it turns out to be the penis museum? I do.

  • Survive Brexit. Still surviving. DONE

  • Go to the gym twice a week. I went on Monday and Friday. 2/2 DONE

I’m going to try and go four times this week.

  • Don't eat meat at lunchtime. I failed at this unintentionally, which was most annoying. On the occasions when I need to buy lunch at work, I usually get the soup at the canteen in Physics. The soup is - or so I’d thought - always vegetarian. Except this time, as I walked out, I actually read the sign and to my dismay, it said, “leek and chicken”. NOT DONE.

  • Consume meat at evening meals a maximum of three times per week. No meat on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. DONE

  • Consume alcohol once per week socially and once at home. Oh dear, I failed at this even though I have adjusted the goal! I had a very small glass of wine on Wednesday night (leftover from last weekend), and then had wine on Friday night and two beers last night. Hence, three times instead of two. NOT DONE

It should be relatively easy to meet the new goal for the next two weeks.

  • Leave 3 comments per day on LJ and DW on other people's posts. Succeeded every day. DONE

  • Write one community post per month. Already DONE for January. Posted to [community profile] common_nature for a third time as we had a visit from a group of noisy starlings.

  • Read more than ten new books this year. I read some more of Uncommon Knowledge, but less than I would have wished as I worked a lot of evenings last week. 2/11. PROGRESS MADE.

  • Reduce Facebook checks from once a week to once a month. January’s check already done last week, so I didn’t look this week. DONE

  • Eliminate the two phone games I still play. Pokemon Go still off the menu, and other game has been cut back. PROGRESS MADE

My parents went to Iceland a year and a half ago, and their last day was a very rainy day in Reykjavik, so they ended up spending it in the Phallological Museum, and actually had a very good time XD (when they were discussing it in the car, my mother originally heard it as "tennis museum" -- the words "tennis" and "penis" sound more similar in Russian, same vowels, just different initial consonant) -- but once she figured out what it was really about, she was more intrigued to visit. This has now become a full-fledged family anecdote, despite its recency, and we got to hear stories about the exhibits and see some pictures. XD

Wow. I hope there is time to visit this museum because I bet the exhibitions are nothing short of entertaining. I can't wait to read about this trip.

Do you eventually think you might go vegetarian or pescetarian? I love how autocorrect tried to change "pescetarian" to "proletarian". Thanks for trying to help, autocorrect, but that's not what we're talking about here.

I dare you to walk around the museum saying very loudly: "Nah, these are rubbish. *My* collection of merkin gherkins is way more impressive than this..." =:oD

I went to that museum some years ago, when it was in Husavik, before it moved to Reykjavik. They have a lot of whale dicks. But my favorite exhibit involved elves.

That sounds like an excellent museum to be in proximity to. Hopefully it is informative as well as potentially entertaining.

All of the above! And if I, uh, get stuck there then it'd be easier to visit more often.
