As promised on Thursday, here is the public announcement of the Big News.
I started a new job last Monday.
After almost exactly twelve years, I left the lab. I was sad to go, but my reasons for leaving were myriad and included being very, very tired after six years of commuting between London and Birmingham. My one-way commute has gone from three-plus hours to just over half an hour, including drop-off times for both children.
I'm still working in engineering, just doing a different role at a different institution, about which I shall be intentionally vague to protect my pseudo-anonymity here.
We shall see how it goes. My apologies if I'm less responsive here than usual; learning a new job is time- and energy-intensive.
