Pokémon Go: Week 5

I was going to post this tomorrow rather than today, but for various reasons am in dire need of cheering up. Please to share with me your Pokésquee if you have any.

• My Spreadsheet of Evolve finally got to the point where I was ready to pop my Lucky Egg.
  
• 67 evolutions in slightly over 30 minutes with eight new Pokémons registered to the Pokedex gave me 74500 XP. The egg ran out just before I finished the last one. I suspect the additional time taken for the Pokedex registrations rendered it impossible to complete them all in time for doubled points.
  
• The orgy of evolve wasn’t quite as fun as I was hoping. Partly because I was nervous about getting them all done in time, and partly because frankly it’s boring evolving 11 Pidgeys and 12 Rattatas.
  
• This was mitigated by watching my trainer bompf from the end of Level 20 to nearly Level 22. That wasn’t at all tedious. :D
  
• Am now Level 22.
  
• I now have a Wartortle. Take that, Euston Station.
  
• Why did no one look at the Weepinbell and think “flying condom. no. bad idea. back to the drawing board”? Least Favourite Pokémon.
  
• I have maxed out the Bird Keeper and Punk Girl medals.
  
• Whenever I have grump, I go and poke the Gengar’s tummy, and then there is less grump.

I know that this week is going to be hellish for you, but Mr Mime has just started popping up again. He ran away on Saturday, on Sunday the crowds leaving the BM stopped me from getting to him in time, but I caught him on the bus into work this morning, and then he popped up at my desk, which was nice.

I have just googled Mr Mime and am now mildly horrified at the idea of catching one. I will try if I see one because I have to collect All The Pokémon, but I doubt I'll enjoy it. :P

I have been enjoying vicarious Pokémon-hunting with Elder Child, and we found it led to him discovering lots of interesting little landmarks around York. The cry of "that building is a Pokéstop!" became very familiar, as was "hang on, I need to catch this [thing]".

He was kind enough to let me play on his phone while we walked into and around Cambridge city centre on a couple of errands yesterday. I definitely need to never install it on my own phone or I will never get anything else done :-)

My Pokésquee for the day: I took a walk in the drizzle last night and juuusst tipped over into Level 26. Every Monday morning a Sandshrew appears on a roundabout that my bus whizzes past. It's the only place in the whole city that I've seen one (aside from hatching them from eggs) and it always seems to be a Monday thing. I caught it again this morning and realised that I finally had enough to evolve. So now I have a Sandslash and it looks like a dino-hedgehog. It's great!

Ooh, congrats on leveling up, and on the long-awaited evolve! I only have one Sandshrew and that hatched from an egg, so I may have to wait a loooong time to be able to evolve it.

despite, by that point, having had several hours of ikea shopping plus An Epic time at the rona trying to get paint the right colour of red PLUS having to go feed a friend's cat plus ALSO forgetting the keys to her place the first time, upon spotting a vulpix on arriving home I STILL ran out and walked around till i found it.

from this you can determine how much i want a fucking ninetails.

(A & I did an IKEA run recently and ended up talking ourselves into this chest of drawers, minus the add-on unit, because it is a ridiculous shape we both find soothing and by far the nicer of the two things that would actually have fitted across the foot of the bed. All of the drawers are red on the inside, which made us both smile and also, right now, makes me think of you...)

I am still at one (1) Vulpix What I Hatched and would REALLY like some more. >:(

(Ahahaha yes I am fond of that one. I am also terribly vexed at Ikea because the UK appears to be the only place that still has the headboard that goes with my bed and it's SLIGHTLY BIG to get shipped here by anyone given the Appalling Shipping Rates. I mean I will find another solution, including I'm going to start hitting craigslist and stuff and see if I can get a second-hand one, but IRKED, man, IRKED.)

I have had three. The one I caught by total accident driving to the paint store weeks ago, one that I got because I have an ahem-alert (literally. just. to. catch. vulpixes.) and had that program open at the time, and then the one from last night.

On the other hand I still have zero Char-anythings beyond my starter and the one (1) I have ever, ever seen in the wild.

(... I mean we live near an IKEA and a post office and the pound's currently low against the dollar so if you WANTED to swallow the cost... like, yeah, second-hand is pretty obviously a better first bet but if you get sufficiently bored, etc.)

I can see that you would like a Ninetails very much, yes, yes. I have never seen a Vulpix, so will have to take it on faith that they are Worth It!

I had SUCH A GOOD POKEMON DAY yesterday (... in the Stockholm archipelago, which I feel a bit bad about but whatEVER).

I found a wild Vaporeon (CP1855!) and totally failed at having the self-discipline to Not Catch It (I am relying on the RNG to provide me with Eeveelutions rather than doing the thing, because brains), and have subsequently made thorough use of it in gyms. I also found a Mr. Mime, which I was horrified by but it's now in my Pokedex so I NEVER HAVE TO OWN ONE AGAIN, and caught enough of things various to do my first evolutions of Sandshrew, Magnemite, and Meowth (plus Slowpoke the day before), PLUS I caught my 2000th Pokemon, and am... still leader, last I checked, of a gym on the island I stuck a Porygon on yesterday more-or-less in passing. :D

AND THEN it was the case that P managed to hit level 5, so I took out the gym outside his flat for him so he could stick a small Pokemon on it and get the experience of so doing, but I'd GPS glitched back out of range of this gym so he got to stick his tiny CP76 Voltorb on while I wandered around inside the flat trying to glitch back so I could stick a Lapras on it -- and by the time I'd managed someone had knocked his Voltorb off. Whereupon the entirety of Team Mystic who lived in that block apparently went WELL WE CAN'T BE HAVING WITH THAT and very, very aggressively levelled the gym up to a good way through Level 5, with P getting his Voltorb back on in a spot at the bottom (for easier levelling)! ... and this gym, which normally changes hands several times an hour and very rarely makes it past Level 3, stayed at Level 5 until mid-afternoon today, at which point I'd got it most of the way to Level 6 when a small group of 10yos wandered up to it and very efficiently demolished it, such that even if I'd decided to keep trying to power it up against them I'd have failed pretty miserably.

... we gave them a round of applause when they finally managed it. They were a bit startled.

(Next Lucky Egg I am going to get 7 new species! Also I have accepted that my auxiliary internet device is slow enough that I'll only actually get through about 40 evolutions per egg, at least with ca. 10 new evolutions, but wevvvvs. ALSO if you haven't tried poking a Sandshrew and you have access to one I HIGHLY recommend it.)

Hah. The gyms around here are like that: they just do not get higher than Level 5 for ANYONE. Too. Many. Kids. Which is wonderful (and I'm very fond of how many of said kids are out and about and showing me where good kid-places are around here, because there are a LOT, reinforcing my feeling that if I DO manage to find an Even Vaguely Vancouver Area Job, I am totally just going to long-term buy this place off my parents), but means that especially right now in the summer, you WILL get thrown out of any gym in about four hours at the outside.

If I get up early and do my Rounds and have enough potions, I can usually punt other teams out of the two that are right on my rounds and grab 20 pokecoins for it, but only if I do have enough potions that I can be sure I'll get the second one within about an hour or less of the first. Anything more and I've got a no-health pokemon back in my deck. :P

WOW. I have never seen anything over CP850 in the wild. That's amazing. And huzzah for registrations to Pokedex (even scary ones), and Porygon of Unexpected Durability.

I have one Sandshrew (hatched from an egg) and I did poke it when I first got it, but thank you for reminding me to try again. IT SQUEAKS AND ROLLS INTO A BALL AAAHHHH SO CUTE

I'm almost to 22. But nothing new - tried to singlehandedly take down a gym, and was down to the last one, when a passing pair reinforced the gym with another couple Eeveeloutions and all my entry was for very little experience. Although it did get my item bag count down low enough from my last Lucky Egg that I could start collecting again. But yes, alas, not much experience at all obtained for all those revives I put out.

I'm close to the point of being ready for another egg run, but I'm also not gathering a whole lot of new things. I'm starting to see some evolved forms start showing up on the map, but I rarely get to catch them.

I'm starting to suspect the slog from Level 20 to 25 is a bit tedious in this regard. I'm hoping it gets to be a bit more fun again soon, maybe after I hatch a couple more eggs.

I have almost gained enough XP to move to level 21! I caught another Magikarp near the office at lunchtime (only 250 to go!)! I have a Lickitung which I find disturbing... But I have only seen 79 species, so I have much more to discover. 😊

YAY! The name Lickitung sounds disturbing. I'm almost afraid to ask but...does it evolve?

The Lickitung is number 108 in my Pokedex, (and I don't know what 107 is yet ::frowns::) and does not have an evolve button. I guess there's always the chance a future release could give it an evolution, although it does look to me like it's an already evolved form of something I've not come across yet! But yes, it is about as disturbing as it sounds (although slightly less so than Mr Mime).

Lickitung is so far my absolute "what is THAT?" pokemon :D I was literally staring at it for a minute before I starting throwing pokeballs at it!

Does the number of pokemons showing up in your vicinity suddenly decrease around level 11? Because either that happened, or my app is glitching and refusing to vibrate when I'm not looking directly at it. I can't walk around CONSTANTLY STARING at it!

Still. I hatched a second Charmander and a Sandshrew. And I'm having too much fun naming things. My little harem is currently lead by a Pigeot named Sam Wilson, a Golbat named Grimdark, a Hypno named Janet and, uh, whatever Ratatta evolves into but I named it Scott. I'm starting to run out of Marvel characters...

It does seem like the frequency decreases as you level up. I find that the ones I do see tend to be higher CP and/or are much more difficult to catch than they used to be.

A Ratatta becomes a Raticate. Angry little sod. :P

I would love to see that spreadsheet - I'm currently thinking about when to use mine. Level 14 so far, working my way up slowly.

The spreadsheet is nothing fancy! It has 8 columns: type, CP (highest), HP (highest), candies to evolve, total candies, Evolve at level XX?, # of Evolves, New to Pokedex?. There are some simple "If" statements in the Evolve columns to determine Y/N and number of evolves.
