This Caturday: Horrible Things Our Cat Has Left Us Recently

Just in case you miss the subject line, don’t click the cut text below if you have an aversion to viewing dead, drowned and dissected birds and mammals. Telstar has been on an absolute rampage recently and he seems to want to drag everything home and share it with us. Some of the horrors may hold a macabre amusement for those of you who have lived with cats for a long time, so I’m sharing them on this fine Caturday.



Yep, that’s a drowned mouse in a toilet. Thank you, cat.



And this is a pair of dead robins in the front hallway. One is decapitated. The other is intact. The perpetrator can be seen lurking in the background.





The pièce de résistance. Half of a squirrel, its paws, its face, and its liver artistically arranged on the landing. I have no idea how he got it to appear as if the front half of the squirrel had teleported through the floor.



Look at that face. Butter wouldn't melt!

Me: "I thought so, but I didn't want to show you a dead squirrel and have you be like, 'Why are you showing me a dead squirrel?' in a sad way."

L: "Why are you showing me a d-- Oh. I see."
Me: "Portal squirrel?"
L: "Portal squirrel."

Aww, he's an artist as well as a hunter! Clearly he has plenty of things to say. A pity that his medium of choice is, well.

The squirrel is by far the best. Oh, cats.

That squirrel is amazing. My cats need to step it up a gear. I just get semi-digested slugs at the moment.

I am forever grateful that Kheldar chose to bring his first kill (a pigeon) into the house during the day, while everyone was at home. Apparently our reaction to that was so traumatic (attempt to rescue the pigeon and when that failed chase Kheldar out of the house with his prize and then chase Shadow out of the house with the same damn pigeon) that both of the cats decided to keep the results of their hunting prowess in the garden from then on. This does mean coming across dismembered frogs while trying to do the weeding but it's a lot less mess out there than it would be indoors.

+1 on artistic presentation points! I actually like the squirrel. I mean, ugh, and I can't imagine cleaning that up, but it's kinda cool!

It was almost admirable, except for the bit about it being really gross to clean up.

Ah, I've done that several times. I've learnt to keep my shoes on when I first enter the kitchen on coming home after a day at work.

Yes, I think he might have been feeling a little neglected. These were left for us after we'd been away for an evening.

If Damien Hirst had done it, it would probably be in the Tate Modern!

Ohhh, I remember that entry! Bleargh.

The squirrel almost looks premeditated. I found it that disturbing.

Maybe that's it. He's been cuddling up to the bump quite a lot lately. Perhaps he thinks Passenger needs special treats.

I suspect it was a warning that we'd spent a few too many evenings away from home!

It's just...how did he get the tail to do that?! It looks posed. O.O

That would be the optimistic reading of the behaviour. It could work. He's been cuddling up to the bump quite a bit lately. Maybe he thinks I need extra treats.

It wasn't that long after that incident that The Onion came out with a t-shirt, with a picture of a cute striped kitten, with the caption, "Kitten Thinks of Nothing but Murder All Day."
