It's only Tuesday?

Today began auspiciously, with pleasant chat to train buddies and a serendipitous shot of one of them peering out at the Royston commuters.

Then I went to the Royal Astronomical Society to attend a workshop about a proposed L-class mission to Jupiter. This is what the library looks like from the balcony level (which is accessed via a spiral staircase).

After the workshop, a colleague and I walked through Burlington Arcade in search of beer and stumbled upon some of the 209 Faberge eggs that are scattered around central London.

Those of you who remember my quest to find all 258 elephant statues during the London Elephant Parade (click here to see my Flickr set) can imagine the effect this discovery had on me. I am a complete sucker for a treasure hunt. This one doesn't appeal quite as much because let's face it, eggs are harder to anthropomorphize than elephants. But I still can't resist it, so I will be hunting them down. It should be easier than the elephant treasure hunt as the furthest they're located from central London is Canary Wharf. Not like the previous hunt, where you had to travel to Heathrow Terminal 5 for the sake of a single elephant.

If you're in London and you want to find some eggs yourself, you can download PDFs of egg locations here: The Big Egg Hunt.

Oh, wouldn't that be lovely? I hope you achieve it one day.

I have such a weakness for bookrooms; there's a folder on my hard drive labeled Beautiful Libraries and it's got well over a hundred photos (so far).

I really like the first photo and that library basically stepped out of my dreams. (Except for the bit where it's about astronomy instead of politics and queer theory, but still.)

EGGS! I like 'em better than elephants tbh. :D

Seeing the word "Royston" always triggers bittersweet memories... =:o\

Pssst... D'you happen to know of any jobs going for a tech-savvy 46 year old with 4 years of recent retail experience? Preferably something involve a modicum of autonomy, i.e. being told "Here's what we as a company/store/team do; you're in charge of *that* bit of it... Get on with making it wonderful!"

Royston? Well, I never really got out and saw the town itself, but my impression from driving through is of a small core of olde-worlde quaintness with a surrounding ring of modernity. I was living and working on Harlow at the time, and I usually used to drive up there the fast way: heading up the M11, across a bit on the A505 and then dropping down into the northern/modern outskirts of Royston where my friend lived at the time. On the way back, I usually took the more leisurely route down through the town centre and out onto the darker, more countrified stretches of the A10.

MY DRIVINGS, LET ME SHOW YOU THEM:

- As usual, Google's suggested route is the silliest option: I *never* went via Bishop's Stortford if at all possible! Talk about combining worst of both worlds... It was either M11 all the way or A10 all the way, for me.
