Today is Black Cat Awareness Day. As a mixed-colour kitteh, Telstar encourages you to be kind to black cats and tuxies alike.



Yes, you may bring me treats, my fur-less two-legged servant.


I'm working from home today as one of my students saw fit to pass along his/her cold (the little darling!). This is a fairly accurate representation of Telstar's idea of "helping" me to work.

Are black cats really less popular? I've known some lovely black cats. There's one at The Golden Hind called Marley. He's got long hair, is friendly and playful, and is a constant fugitive from justice, evading chasing staff to use his brilliant nose to locate anything made from chicken.

Black cats are the best! I had a wonderful black cat called Melissa (because it rhymed with 'hisser' - she was the kitten off to one side, hissing and glaring at my parents on adoption day, and they chose her because she had character). She owned the household and chased away cats twice her size, and even had a go at dogs. She lived to 22, partly (we suspect) on the strength of her hatred for the new cat. Badass.

Jaz is my second (mostly) black cat, and he's awesome. People are stupid.

I think it is so weird that black cats are less adoptable. I wanted a black cat when we picked out our Kitsune. She is completely black too even her whiskers and paw pads.

A day for remembering my own black cats: three companions of various periods of my life, now all gone. But I can think of my daughter's two with unalloyed pleasure :)

I think I've watched all of the Simon's Cat episodes. The cat-in-a-box one is rivaled only by the real-life-cat-Maru video.

Twenty-two! Wow! That's pure stubbornness. Our oldest cat lived to be 17, and I think that was on the strength of her hatred for me - I was born when she was about five, and she never forgave me for it.

Wow! I don't often see purely black cats around here. They usually have a dab of white here and there. Kitsune sounds gorgeous.

Lovely. I've never had a purely black cat, but that's mostly because my adoption tactic is primarily dictated by, "Which of these cats has been here longest and is in imminent danger of euthanasia?"

For the record I am boggled that people don't like black cats! My late tuxie, Figaro, was an absolute darling.
