PSA about LJ: Random access to other users' accounts

If you are not already aware of this, your LiveJournal is presently not secure. Some users, when they have logged in, have discovered that they have access to other users' accounts - people who are not on their friends lists. The access includes the ability to view and edit locked and private content. LiveJournal staff have yet to comment on the issue.

If anyone would, say, like to delete their LJ account temporarily but still be able to blog, I have 24 DreamWidth invite codes available. Leave a comment or e-mail me at nanila at livejournal dot com to receive one. I'll be leaving my LJ up long enough for people to respond to this today, but if the issue isn't resolved before that, I'll be deleting until it's fixed.

ETA on 28/10/2011: It appears that the random access issue has been fixed.

I just posted about this again too. I can't believe LJ haven't even said anything about it. What the fuck are they doing?

I don't want to delete my LJ, because there are so many people who just won't move to DW (which is the sole reason I still have an LJ at all). But this bothers me a lot.

I am especially annoyed because I have a paid account, because I can't cope with the idea of having to move all my scrapbooked photos to another server to preserve 10 years' worth of entries.

I have the same reason for not deleting.

I have a permanent account, but that's long since paid for itself, so basically I don't exist as far as LJ is concerned because I'm never going to give them any money again. Good thing from a 'chucking good money after bad' point of view; bad thing from a 'voting with one's wallet' point of view.

Sigh. I know I could carry on reading my flist via OpenID but no one would be reading me back. Hardly anyone ever comments to me as it is, damnit!

I'm in the same state with the scrapbooked pics.

I'll probably drift back in the next couple of days, quite honestly: the only reason I'm not doing it today is that I'm too annoyed with the 'see, no one could EDIT other people's entries, so why do you care?' patrol.
