The Friday Five on a Saturday

  1. You're holding a dinner party and can invite three famous people from the past or present; who would they be?

I never understood the appeal of this. I hardly get to see my friends and family. I would rather invite them to dinner than a group of people I don't know. That just sounds exhausting.

  2. You have the opportunity to question someone about something you've always wanted to know and receive a truthful answer; what would your question be?

No no no. In my experience, if someone is holding back on telling you a truth, it's because it is not going to make you feel happy. I'll pass.

  3. If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?

My workload. See answer to Q1.

  4. If you could save other people's lives by completing an act that would lead to your own death, would you do it?

As ever, answers depend on the context. If we are talking about an overstuffed inflatable raft full of vulnerable children floundering in the English Channel, then unequivocally yes. If we are talking about an autocratic dictator and his henchmen, then absolutely not.

  5. Would you commit murder if you knew that you could get away with it?

    No.

Re. question 1: A better question: You're hosting a dinner party for three of your best friends, and one famous person from the past or present. Who do you invite, and why?

Answering this question wisely requires that you understand at least three of your friends well enough to know of a famous person they would all like to share dinner with. Answering this question *WITH COMPASSION AND HUMILITY* requires that you understand at least three of your friends *and the chosen famous person* well enough to know that none of them will feel unduly distressed about the situation.

P.S. I chose my icon for this post/comment very carefully. Feel free to ask me how/why.

Heh. =:o} I actually meant the *above* post.

But since you mention it, the "towel" is not a towel but a peasant's hat, and that was me playing/singing the part of the Rumour Monger in the first staged version of the "Before The Dawn" filk saga. (The 2nd staged version was at the London Worldcon a few years later, and I had more than twice as many versions of that blinkin' patter-song to learn and somehow get my mouth around, *AND* we all had to be off-book 'cos there was proper acting involved! =:oo ... But I don't have an icon from that one. )

I love your answer to #1. Perfect. (well, except the too busy part...)
