Day 276/365: Steam Yacht Gondola
Yes, I’ve managed it! The final mammoth photo post installment of our August summer holiday, which is about our trip on the beautifully restored Victorian Steam Yacht Gondola. We stayed in a tipi at the youth hostel not far from the gondola’s launch onto Coniston Water, and so we headed out early one very wet morning to catch it on its first trip out onto the water that day.

Steam Yacht Gondola in dock. Note this was taken after we had our ride, as we were concentrating on keeping the children from jumping gleefully off the pier in pursuit of ducks when we were boarding.

SYG brass plaque.

Engine room sign. Such wonderful touches, all over the gondola.

First peek at the engine room.

Flags!

Steam Yacht Gondola interior.

Ready to sail. I mean, steam.

Yes, but do you have a flag?

Friendly family sailing.

Mummy, Keiki and Humuhumu

It was a bit soggy when we boarded…

View across the lake.

Is that...a dhow?!

Humuhumu admires the little fishy touches

Beautiful boat house

Touching the warm chimney.

It were a dark and stormy morning when we set off.

Standing on deck with Daddy.

Lovely wooden seating in the bow.

Ornate carving on the bow.

The Engineer feeding the Fire Dragon in the engine room

Keiki going down the beautiful wooden steps from the deck.

“POSTCARDS and SOUVENIRS available from the purser”

Brave canoeists out on the lake.

Long pier is long.

Bloke, Keiki and Humuhumu watching the Fire Dragon being fed in the engine room.

Keiki giggling at Daddy out on deck.

Mummy’s photo of Humuhumu looking out the window

Humuhumu’s photo of Mummy looking out the window.

Flopped out on the seats.

Humuhumu chilling out on one of the seats.

Wooden statues of the Swallows and Amazons children.

View across the lake.

Looking down into the engine room while the Fire Dragon is being fed. (really, this never got old)

Squishing Daddy in the stern.

These grey stone buildings are perfect.

Skipper and life ring.

Heading back into dock.
