The second one is just icing on the 6-hour-wait cake.

Trick question: they are both equally irritating.

Or...waiting in all day then looking at the tracking website to see it says delivery was attempted when you damned well know no-one knocked on the door, rang the bell or left a card.

I chose the former but narrowly - very narrowly. I might (coincidentally) have a package to sign for next week and am already worried as I tend to plan my home time out not at all very badly, so I don't know if I'll be able to be home when my mail carrier arrives (anywhere from 3-8pm; I wish I were making that up - and yes, it's debatable who has a worse time planning out their travails for the day, me or them).

Both of these are annoying but what will be more annoying is when both happen again three days in a row, as happened to a friend of mine in York recently.

Kind of both, really.

Augh!

They're both bloody annoying (says she who knows there are three packages of books on the way from France as she writes).

I stayed in and got an e-mail saying I had been out (I wasn't) and they had delivered it to a different numbered house. Different numbered house is twenty numbers different from mine. Fortunately they sent me a photo of the house and the number by the door where they had left it. Unfortunately the houses with that number in my road and the top half of the road that has a different name and the two roads round the corner looked nothing like it. Then I walked through the other bits of town with similar looking houses.

Then I thought what if I hadn't changed the address on Paypal when I moved house and walked down to my old house and yes my semi-detached former neighbour's house was the one in the photo!

So it was entirely my fault but I got a bonus treasure hunt and chat with former neighbour out of it.

At least I did get a photo to help track it down.
