Do you have a favourite cause that you support?
I support multiple causes through charitable donations, but one of the most important to me is the Abortion Support Network, which does exactly what it says on the tin: It helps people in the UK and Europe to get abortions, particularly those who live in areas with restrictive laws.
If so, how do you support it?
I give them as much money per month as I can. When they have fundraising drives, I donate more. When they ask for comments they can use in their promotional materials, I provide as much detail as I can.
Have you been an active member of an organization (attending meetings, volunteering, etc)?
Yes. I was a school governor for a while, and I’ve also volunteered for Parkrun, as well as other charitable organisations.
Have you ever led any group?
No, I’ve never had the capacity with either full-time work or academic study to lead a volunteer group.
If so, how was your experience with it?
See above. I’m sure I’d find it very fulfilling, but it’ll have to wait until I retire (or go part-time).

Seasonal Giving, the Lupercalia edition

As you may have gathered from yesterday's post, I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day. However, as a regular donor to the Abortion Support Network, who help women to access safe, legal abortion from Ireland and Northern Ireland, I couldn't ignore their appeal to help establish branches in Malta and Gibraltar, where abortion is (functionally) totally illegal. I have donated to the campaign here; please consider doing so if you are able to as well. If you can't donate, please consider my donation to have been given on your behalf as well. ♥ ♥ ♥

Seasonal Giving: The Abortion Support Network

So the Abortion Support Network, which helps people in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland access the safe abortions they're denied at home, is running a Wintermas campaign to raise additional money. I give a regular monthly donation to ASN, but I wanted to let my DW Circle know I have made an additional donation to them on your behalf as part of my Seasonal Giving. I put in £20 (plus £5 Gift Aid) which works out to about 13 pence per person. Not a lot, I know, but I hope it pleases you. <3

Seasonal Giving 2011

Instead of sending Non-Sectarian Festival Holiday Cards at random this year, I’m going to follow the fine example of innerbrat.

I will donate (slightly more than) the amount I’d otherwise spend on a card and postage to the following three charities on your behalf - £1.50 per person. If you select more than one charity, I’ll divide the donation among them. Hence, if you select all three, I’ll donate 50 pence to each on your behalf. I’m not planning to name anyone other than myself when I make the donations. The poll results are viewable only to me.

If you are able to make a small reciprocal donation on my behalf as well, that would be wonderful, but it is not required. Please select from the following three charities:

Medecins sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) is an international aid organisation that provides emergency aid to people affected by natural and less-natural disasters and war. They are independent, a-partisan and a-religious and use this independence to provide medical aid to everyone who needs it. (Description taken from innerbrat.)
IntoUniversity is a London organisation that "supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration." Those who have been reading my journal over the past few weeks will know I have personal ties with this charity.
The Abortion Support Network is a volunteer-run a-partisan charity that "provides financial assistance, accommodation in volunteer homes, and confidential, non-judgmental information to women in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland who are travelling to England to access a safe and legal abortion."
