I love visitors' books. My parents' families each have a holiday cottage in Scotland, and the two houses each have visitors' books. On the way back with two friends from a holiday in cottage #1, in the Hebrides, we stayed the night at cottage #2 (it's in the Borders, so a good place to break the drive, depending on what time you got the boat from cottage #1. Having insisted that my friends write in #1's visitors' book, I also made them write in #2's, even though we were there for less than twelve hours. One friends wanted to know what the thing was with my family and visitors' books, and it took me awhile to answer, because at first I didn't know.
But actually, in the books you can see stuff like the last time my granny and grandad ever made trips to these places they loved so much, or the first time my dad took my mum up (and she basically married him because of how much she wanted in on cottage #1), and all sorts. I don't know, they're just really really great. Communal history is awesome.
