Day 140/365: Spider girl.

Humuhumu had gymnastics class today. Her coach asked her to climb to the top of a rope suspended from the ceiling of the warehouse. According to the bloke, she shot up it in a few seconds.

On the previous day, we went to the park a few miles away to ride bikes and play on the playground with some friends. This is her and her friend at the top of the big rope climbing structure. No fear.

Gosh, Humuhumu has gotten taller! She looks so cute in her leotard.

She has shot up recently! She put on her school jumper this morning and said, "Mummy, this has got a bit small." She was not wrong.

She's like a tiny superhero in her spandex, all fearless and climbing things.

I think there's a certain amount of fearlessness that comes with being young and not falling down a whole lot. Humuhumu certainly has the abilities to become an aerialist, if this is early indication.

There is, but she also has a level of confidence in and control over her body that I haven't seen in a lot of other children.

She's quite sporty in general so I think she'll enjoy almost anything we have her try! There's a place that does aerial classes in town nearby so we may give that go. I bet she'd like the silks.

That's good. I remember being much less coordinated and confident at that age, so I'm glad Humuhumu gets the opportunity to practice.

I think the silks would be very fun.

Haha, it is a rather heart-stopping watching her sometimes. But I try never to let her see that I'm afraid. She has a lot of innate (and justified) confidence in her body and I don't want to see it get knocked.

Aww, she looks so fab! I think having confidence in her body will be hugely beneficial as she grows up.

My ex-colleague has a 12 year old daughter who goes to a circus school. It sounds SO INTENSE but so amazing.

I hope so. She's quite shy socially, but being physically confident opens doors for her to playing with other children without having to talk too much initially.

Circus school would be awesome. Humuhumu would be well into that, I reckon. She's going to gymnastics camp for A WHOLE DAY over half-term and she is suuuuper excited about that.

That's wonderful. I climbed everything as a child, too. I remember the view from the top of the rope in gym class. Go Humuhumu!

It's as if she can't help herself. Present her with a climbing frame, and she's straight up to the top of it!

I am so impressed by the rope climbing! Even as a limber small child I couldn't do it - I'd move my feet, and I'd move my arms, but my body would not move one inch up the rope.

Heh, I remember being able to get to the top of the rope but boy was it a slog. I certainly didn't shoot up it in seconds. It seems to be quite a specific talent!

And I got her postcard! It was SO COOL.

What am I going to doooooo with this child. Last week when we were at Hanbury Hall, we were sitting in this pretty little gazebo thing with our friends. When Humuhumu finished her ice lolly, she asked if she could get up while I continued chatting with her friend's mum. I said yes. A few minutes later, her school friend exclaimed, "Look where Humuhumu is! That's naughty...isn't it?"

She had climbed up the latticework side of the gazebo and was preparing to sit on top of it.
